1) Pour about 1/3 cup of cold water into the base of the Butter Bell crock
2) Pack 1/2 cup (one stick) softened butter into the bell-shaped cup of the lid
3) Replace the lid into the crock. That's it!

The water creates an airtight seal, and combined with the crock, keeps the butter cool. Both actions prevent spoilage, even at room temperature. Ingenious!
