One of France's most famous cheeses. Legend has it that Marie Harel received the recipe for this cheese from an exiled priest she gave refuge to on her Normandy farm during the French Revolution, and Camembert was borne from this meeting. Nice sentiment, but cheese of this variety had been made in Normandy since at least the mid-1500s, two-hundred-plus years earlier. Camembert is a runny, mushroomy round with a mildly salty tang and a bloomy rind; a bit more pungent than Brie. Made in France of pasteurized cows' milk. Certified kosher in France.
